BOUNDARY CREATION PROCESS

High School Boundaries

With the construction of Dysart’s fourth high school located at 10909 N. Perryville Road (Perryville Road  and Peoria Avenue), the Boundary Committee will set out to establish new high school boundaries.  During the process, the committee will consider the following priorities:

  • Take into account the impact of future schools
  • Try to keep geographical boundaries contiguous, avoiding islands
  • Incorporate incoming/projected growth
  • Maintain safe walking areas
  • Keep communities together – neighborhood school focus
  • Minimize travel distance
  • Minimize disruptions of the education programs for students and schools
  • Consider feeder school boundaries
  • Develop boundaries that will be viable over the longest possible time period without changes
  • Ensure that all schools will be utilized to capacity, but not over-crowded
  • Ensure a minimum of additional expense for transportation – fiscal responsibility

At its first meeting on October 6, 2008, the committee started by considering background data on boundary changes.  In addition the committee received a packet of information which included data on the current number of students in each boundary grid.

Community members will be invited to review the information provided to the committee and comment on the final recommendation for High School boundaries for the 2008-09 school year.

K-8 boundaries are currently projected to remain the same for the 2009-10 school year.
